Jacksonville Parks and Greater Opportunity

Parks and recreation are resources and services provided for the purposes of leisure, entertainment, and recreational pursuits. Our programs include our trails, gardens, agriculture, sports and bark parks for our furry members of the community!

  • Expand existing AGROWhood gardens;  introduce new sites focusing on soil health, cover crops, community food  production, and nonprofit-led innovations throughout Morgan County and the  greater region. We are currently in 5 different sites, 3 open to the public and 2 private locations to be able to provide food and resources for our non-profit organizations.

  •  Enhance and promote the Bark Park as a welcoming recreational space for dog owners and families, supported by community volunteers and nonprofit partners.

  • Improve and extend trail systems to increase  accessibility and encourage outdoor activity, connectivity, and ecological  education.

  • Disc golf, also known as frisbee golf, is a recreational and competitive sport that combines the strategy of traditional golf with the fun of throwing discs. Instead of using clubs and balls, players use specially designed flying discs, aiming for a target, usually a metal basket with hanging chains that catch the disc. The objective is to complete a course, typically with 9 or 18 holes, using the fewest throws possible.

  • Partner with local artists and nonprofits to create  site-specific art, murals, and performance events that celebrate community  heritage, nature, recreation, and nonprofit innovation.

Develop school and camp programs integrating farming, ecology, recreation, nonprofit leadership, and art to foster youth and nonprofit leadership development.

Signature Events

Fairy Twilight Walk, Harvest Festival, disc golf tournaments, and Garden Markets that bring the community together, raise funds, and spotlight emerging nonprofit efforts.

Environmental Stewardship

Promote sustainable practices like composting, rain gardens, and pollinator habitats in community spaces, with nonprofit partners leading local engagement.
